Her thoughts turned to her husband, as the bus lurched off the edge of the road.
She would never feel his breath upon her neck again. She would never chuckle at his bad puns and jokes anew. An unbearable realization.
Then she thought about her children. The beautiful boy and girl that defined her life. The two bright stars of her lost constellation. The little ones that prompted her to take on a third part-time job as a school bus driver.
As the children in the school bus screamed in horror, she wondered, “Are they thinking about their families, too?”
